NAMBITI CONSERVANCY

Nambiti Conservancy, just outside Ladysmith in the Elandslaagte area, is a private game conservancy set on 20 000 acres of malaria-free bushveld in Northern KwaZulu- Natal. The Conservancy marks the arrival of the Big 5 and Wonderful 7 in Northern KwaZulu-Natal and is indeed a boost for tourism.

The Conservancy has incredible biodiversity including savannah, grasslands, thornveld and acacia trees. The Sundays River flows through the reserve and has two 40 metre waterfalls with magnificent ravine bush, home to several rare bird species. They offer guests a truly unique experience. Apart from the traditional, open-vehicle safari game drives where the big five and over thirty other species of game can be seen, they offer alternative activities such as horse safaris, walking trails, fishing and tours of the Battlefields.

The Nambiti Conservancy is situated only 3½ hours from Johannesburg and 2½ hours from Durban, making it the ideal breakaway destination.

There are currently two exceptionally well appointed stone and thatch lodges with a new luxury tented safari camp, Springbok Lodge, scheduled to open on 1 September 2006.

UMZOLOZOLO PRIVATE SAFARI LODGE

Umzolozolo is well positioned overlooking a river valley with magnificent views across the African bushveld. It is an exclusive camp for families or small groups of up to ten. The camp was purposefully kept small so that guests may enjoy exclusivity and privacy.

Umzolozolo consists of 4 beautiful private units with private veranda’s and outdoor showers.

ELEPHANT ROCK PRIVATE SAFARI LODGE

Elephant Rock consists of 4 private luxury units, one being a family unit, superbly positioned overlooking a waterhole – it offers accommodation for up to 10 people.

Both lodges offer exquisite dining, an intimate bar, a beautifully decorated guest lounge, swimming pool and Boma for African flavoured cuisine served under the stars.

WILDLIFE

At Nambiti, you will most likely see more game than you might in the traditional game reserve regions of Southern Africa because the sweet bush of the area can support three times the carrying capacity of the other reserves.

Besides the Big 5 they have over thirty other major species for your game viewing pleasure such as Blesbok, Gemsbok, Giraffe, Hippopotamus, Impala, Kudu, Wild dog and many other.

BATTLEFIELDS

The Elandslaagte area boasts a history that dates back to the late 1800’s, where some of the bloodiest battles in history were fought as Zulus, Boers, and British forces clashed over land and sovereignty. The Battle of Elandslaagte was fought on the Nambiti Conservancy and the original hospital still stands within its boundaries.
