Three Tree Hill Lodge at SpioenkopSimon and Cheryl Blackburn, together with children Kei and
Neo, havemoved down from Botswana and taken over Three
Trees at Spioenkop from Andrew Ardington, who, together
with his late business partner David Rattray, conceived
and built the lodge in 1999. For 3 years in Maun,
Simon managed Kwando Safaris, while Cheryl ran operations
for Royal African Safaris. Previously, for 10 years
they had been guiding guests, training staff and managing
lodges for the Singita group. Simon and Cheryl plan to
continue with the original vision conceived by David
Rattray and Andrew Ardington:'to create the same
degree of understanding and compassion for this area and
its Anglo-Boer War history that David had managed with
the Rorke's Drift area and the Zulu War' Three Trees at
Spioenkop and Fugitives Drift (with the very able and
determined Nicky Rattray at the helm) will maintain a
close marketing relationship as Rattrays Historical
Lodges. This provides an ideal circuit for travelers on a
self drive safari, as well as the ideal secluded
weekend escape for the local market.
Three Trees at Spioenkop, like Fugitives,
is very much a family owned and run affair, with guests
experiencing a warm welcome by friendly
and experienced staff. With their strong safari guiding
background, the Blackburns will inject a holistic
knowledge and enthusiasm for the environment into the
already strong historical foundation laid by Andrew
Ardington and David Rattray ContactFurther information: Simon or Cheryl Blackburn
