Ladysmith Siege Museum Trust

The Ladysmith Siege Trust was formed in 1989 by various concerned citizens in an effort to raise funds to assist the museum with the preservation of heritage in the Emnambithi/Ladysmith area. It It is a non-profit, non- governmental organisation managed by volunteers.

Mission & Main Purpose of the Trust

To promote and preserve the history and heritage of Emnambithi/Ladysmith
To develop satellite museums
To promote existing museums in Ladysmith
To promote awareness of museums and heritage preservation amongst the youth

The Trustees

The Trust consists of 5 members. The Curator of the Siege Museum serves on the Trust ex-officio.

Track Record

The Trust has been successful in raising in excess of R2 million for various projects such as:

Rural School Children Project (Brining disadvantaged children from rural areas to visit the museums in Ladysmith) (2005)
Restoration of cemeteries(2006)
Annual commemorative events (2005 & 2006)
Laying out of historical trail on Wagon Hill Battle site (2004)
Printing of several booklets, post cards etc. (Ongoing)
Restoration of buildings (Ongoing)
Digitising of area Annals (2004)
Oral History Compilation (2006)

Amount granted by the South African National Lottery Board to date: R2 224 500,00 (Reference: Project No.'s: 10277, 11155, 14889)
